No contract is required. Dues are payable
on the first day of each month. There are no testing
fees or promotion fees at the dojo level. There is a fee
charged by our national organization examine for black
belt rank.
No. We teach a traditional style of
jujitsu that embodies the Hawaiian concept of kokua,
which means to w together for mutual benefit. Danzan Ryu
Jujitsu includes training in many aspects of the martial
arts, but is not geared toward MMA competition.
Yes. Our students have the opportunity to
compete in local kata (forms) and freestyle (freeflow)
contests. Participation is not mandatory. The
tournaments and demos are structured to build confidence
and enhance your understanding of the techniques learned
in class.

Stevens has been studying Danzan Ryu Jujitsu for more
than 20 years. All instructors at Makoto Kai are
nationally certified black belts.

Beginners may start at any time. Classes
are tailored to fit the needs of the students that are
present on that day. Each student receives a
personalized lesson plan in each class session.

and grappling. Danzan Ryu is a unique style of jujitsu
that blends Japanese and Hawaiian influences. Each
technique in the catalog is both beautiful and
practical. The benefits and lessons of jujitsu are
comprehended not in a day or a week, but over time. Be

The American Judo & Jujitsu
Federation is a national non-profit organization with
about 70 Danzan Ryu Jujitsu affiliated schools. Makoto
Kai is a proud member of the AJJF.
