Head instructor Sensei Katie Murphy
Stevens began her study of Danzan Ryu Jujitsu in 1990.
She has been a school head of Makoto Kai in Woodland, CA
since 2002. She received the rank of godan (5th degree
black belt) in 2014 and is currently advancing her
training as a student of Professor Jane Carr. In
addition to her jujitsu studies, she is a graduate of
the Danzan Ryu Seifukujitsu Institute massage program.
She has been active in support of the American Judo and
Jujitsu Federation (AJJF) operations since 2003, serving
in various administrative roles. Sensei Murph began her
martial arts practice for some self-defense training and
fitness, but she stays for the deep friendships and her
love of the art.
Sensei Joe Bendorf began his jujitsu
practice in the Makoto Kai juniors program. He earned
the rank of nidan (2nd degree black belt) in 2011.
Sensei Joe has also studied silat, judo and is a
graduate of the Danzan Ryu Seifukujitsu Institute
massage program.
Sensei Rodrigo Garcia began his studies at
Makoto Kai in 2007. He currently holds the rank of
shodan (1st degree black belt) and is the instructor of
the juniors program. Sensei Rodrigo is a career law
enforcement officer and has taught self-defense and
tactical courses to law enforcement officers.
Sensei Silas Gaussion-Radcliffe was born
into a jujitsu family with both father and mother black
belts. He practiced jujitsu as a child and then returned
to his martial arts studies in his late twenties. He
currently holds the rank of shodan (1st degree black
belt).
Sensei Sean Breed started his martial arts
study at Makoto Kai in 2010. He currently holds the rank
of shodan (1st degree black belt).
